How to ride a skateboard

Skateboarding is a very popular sport that has been increasing in popularity since the early 1980s. The skateboard industry has seen a huge increase worldwide making it a recognizable sport as well as a career for those boarders that become experts in their sport.

Learning to ride a skateboard is not as easy as it sounds. It takes balance and agility. Here are tips on how to ride a skateboard that will help you enjoy this popular sport.

Begin by determining the time you will be learning the how to ride a skateboard. It is a sport; it will take time just like another other sport to become experienced and proficient. Visit the skate park and watch other skateboarders to view their styles and techniques.

Go to a skateboard store and talk to the salesperson. Ask them to help you select a good quality skateboard designed for beginners. Take the board home.

Get the board out. Place it on carpet or grass. Stand on the skateboard and find the position for your feet that feels comfortable. Center your feet just behind the trunks of the skateboard. Learn to balance on the stationary board.

Once you get comfortable with balancing on the board stationary take the skateboard to a flat surface. Get on the board and give a soft slight push to get rolling. Turn your body in the center position on the board. This move is called rolling.

Practice several more pushes and return to a balance stance. Once you get comfortable with rolling forward give a few more pushes. To keep your balance while rolling bend your legs slightly at the knees. Place your hands out to the side to help balance your body.

When you want to stop rolling place your back foot on the ground to stop the board from moving forward. You can also drag your foot along the ground to slowly come to a stop.

  4. I have never skateboarded in my life but then I saw my cousin skateboarding and I want to try.. I thought that it was much harder than that but I guess not.. I am deffs trying in the SUMMER!! Thanks this helped a lot!
